Old People meandering around Europe by train & ferry

Time For Tea

We got up a bit later today, Tuesday, and started off going our separate ways.

Our daughter had a soak in her hot tub, while we made the short drive into Grange Over Sands.
The plan was to park the car, charge it, and have a gentle stroll around the sea front area, before all meeting up for a treat
It almost went like that
The charger in the car park wasn't working correctly, and by the time I'd fathomed it out I was rather flustered. The car park payment machine was dreadfully confusing and we ended up paying more than we needed to, but, what's money for, if not for giving to local government?

We eventually found our way to the promenade, by way of a very pleasant, small park. And we were able to look through the bars into the newly restored, but unopened, Grange Lido, to see the planting in the former pool. There's some sort of dispute preventing it being opened which is a great shame.

We walked along the prom and looked out into Morecambe Bay - it's certainly dramatic, and even more dramatic when the tide starts rushing in. You can understand how people drown, caught out by the tide.

Unfortunately this pleasant stroll was interrupted by a very heavy downpour, and another once the first had stopped!

Anyway, it was half past one, and we were meeting up with our daughter at two, so we sheltered in a café until she arrived.

We went to a Proper tea room, for a Proper afternoon tea, with Proper tea! And it was Properly Excellent.
Despite what Marx might or might not have said, proper tea isn't theft!
The owner was a Tea enthusiast with an encyclopedic knowledge of teas She'd run this place since 1984 and clearly enjoyed it. Her name was Dorothy, and it was Dorothy's Teas above her Hazlelmere Tea Room

Gosh! That was good .
Back at the accommodation we all had a sit and doze to digest the scones, cakes and sandwiches before having chicken salad for supper.

I really liked Grange Over Sands, and although it's another place blighted by too much traffic, it does have a lot of charm.

Despite getting soaked, it was another good day.
