Meanderings around Europe by train – and other stuff

Thursday - day 4 in the sun

Thursday is market day in the big car park near us, but because we were very slow at getting going this morning we got there as it was winding down. Sacha bought a bag of cherries for her lunch.

We got the shuttle boat from the market to the 'island' - which is the pretty and historic bit of Martigues.

It was very pleasant sitting in the sun with a cool breeze at the far end of the island. I drew the two bridges and the sculpture, while Sacha read her book (and eat cherries).

We walked along the canal looking for a cafe, but had to settle for a nice ice cream at a cafe in a very French square.

Ultimately we got to a beach cafe at side of the lake - but it was the free automated public loo that was the main attraction! (Sacha had to explain how it worked to a French woman!)

We sat there over a glass of Sprite each for ages in the strengthening wind, I did a very quick pencil sketch looking towards the Alps. The sun was glorious.

It wasn't as far to walk back as I'd expected - it might have been further if Google Maps had their way though.

I walked down to the Spar supermarket - I was deeply unimpressed with Aldi yesterday. I got a bag of salad, some decent ham, a baguette and some spreadable cheese. Oh, and a bottle of fizzy apple juice. It turned out to be a very pleasant tea.

We've got Netflix on the TV and I've got English voice on the series of 'Adolescence' that Sacha has been wanting to watch.
