Meanderings around Europe by train – and other stuff

Stralsund To Binz

We knew that we didn't have to rush out this morning so we took our time and had a bit of a lie in, and a slow breakfast.

I don't know what that 'cold' I had yesterday afternoon was, but it has pretty much gone. I got weary this afternoon. I'm wondering if it's an allergic reaction to Lime Trees (Linden) - theres a lot of them about. I took an anti-alergy tablet this morning, but I'm not sure it's had any effect.

When we got to the station we found there was a direct train due to leave in 20 minutes which was ideal.

We weren't using our interrail passes today as it would have been a waste of a day. I'd bought a 'Lander' ticket some months ago - which scanned perfectly.

Quite oddly - to my mind - there was an offer of coffee and hot chocolate to buy from the guard on the train. Odd because it was only a one hour journey on what was effectively a commuter service.

It was another day when nothing went wrong on a German train trip!

We arrived in Binz at about midday, and left our suitcase at the hotel. No, the receptionist wasn't going to check if our room was ready - Germans seem very rule orientated!

We walked along the splendid promenade to the Kurhous (dodging under a cafe umbrella during a downpour on the way) for a cup of coffee.

A gentle walk back to the hotel and we arrived at just on 3pm and yes, we could get our room key. It's another room with a kitchenette - but this time we've got a balcony too.

Food. We went looking for a cheapish Italian restaurant that was marked Google Maps but when we got there it wasn't clear if it was open. We sat on a bench almost opposite and the waiter came out and gave us a free glass of wine each. Suble bribery or what? But we decided to go in and eat there once it was clear they were serving. It was a good meal - plenty of it, not expensive, not pretentious.

The trouble is, is that I rarely drink alcohol - a small glass and it hit my knees and neck simultaneously!! Hic!

Tomorrow - more Binz-ing.
