Well it was time to leave Bratislava. We've enjoyed you, and we're telling everyone that we know to visit you (but we'll warn them to bring military grade mosquito repellent).
Yes, we were both bitten by mossies in the night, fortunately nowhere too embarrassing.
We got ourselves packed after a decent breakfast.
I suspect the hotel thinks that by playing Slovak folk music at breakfast, people won't linger too long. I turned my hearing aids off and got on with it.
It was a bit of an uphill trek to the bus stop, but Sacha coped with the aid of ropes and an ice pick.
It wasn't a tram so the on-board gymnastics were mild in comparison.
Bratislava's main railway station doesn't really 'do' English, or disabled, or easy - but I soon saw their little game.
I found the hidden lift that also went to the one Euro loo - if I'd known it was a whole euro I'd have not gone at the hotel and got my money's worth here)
The train started from Bratislava, so there was no boarding rush, and we got on, and found our reserved seats easily.
We had a table for four for the whole 4 hour journey which was nice.
The scenery was nice to start with, became good, and was splendid by the time we got off. When my ears started popping with the altitude, I decided it was time for food - so we ordered cake from the dining car, which was delivered to our seats - and excellent it was too.
At Štrba we changed trains onto a modern rack railway train (a Flirt as it happens) for the short journey up the mountain to Štrbské Pleso.
Once in the resort we wandered round - doing circuits of the station courtesy of Google Maps.
Eventually we found our hotel, and the separate hotel where we had to check in.
We're not exactly convinced that our hotel has been finished yet - the builders are still in residence!
But, our apartment is absolutely lovely (and it's got comedy kitchen cupboards!)
Rather than try to choose between the two dozen competing restaurants, I've bought a frozen pizza for tea, which we will eat watching Netflix with Slovak subtitles (Daughter has suggested 'Hostage').
A learning point from my grocery trip was that I can't walk far & fast at this mountain altitude! (wheeze, splutter).
