Old People meandering around Europe by train & ferry

Lake Walk

After an adequate breakfast we decided to stick to Plan A.
Plan A was to ignore the weather forecast and stroll round the lake.

To get to the lake you first have to go uphill. A lot!

But, once you've conquered the climb not only do you get seats, you get a view.
And the views just keep on coming!

We spent around 5 hours gently bimbling along the lakeside path - level, well surfaced and with lots of seats.
Ever time you turned a corner the view was different, and better than the last view.

lake and mountains

From one side you can see the mountain peaks, from another you can see the scary ski jump slope, from another you can see the 19th Century hotel. And there's trees, mostly pine but a lot of rowan trees. There are very few flowers, and we barely saw any birds.

The path is extremely popular. Most of the activity was around where we started, which itself wasn't far from the expensive posh hotel, on the other side of the lake we had several, repeated minutes of peace, quiet and solitude.

Once we'd almost got round we stopped off at a bar-restaurant for Limonady - in this case elderflower & lemon lemonade. It was expensive, but very nice, and we could see the lake and the mountains.

Heading back to the hotel for a proper sit down and a decent cuppa, we went to the supermarket - the one I assumed was closed yesterday.
We got some long-life cakes, a couple of peaches and some liquorice all sorts - the choice of grub for tea was, in a word, non-existent (is that two words?).

So, off to the Zubakia Restaurant as one with least dreadful reviews, and an interesting, but unchallenging menu.
It was a good choice, even if they seemed to be closing around us - but they weren't rushing us (even though it was half past five).
I had Fried Cheese with fries - fried cheese appears on menus a lot. This was a sort of smoked cheese and quite acceptable. Sacha enjoyed her Schnitzel, but found it quite fatty. The Limonady was again, excellent (but shouldn't it have ice in it?). Still, the inner people were satisfied.
The system here seems to be that you don't wait for a bill (no one brings it) but you go to the bar to pay when you are ready.

We walked back towards the apartment by way of the station. The inside is a definite throwback to the 1970s, but sitting on one of the platforms was pleasantly peaceful - Štrbské Pleso station has more platforms than Leicester has! two red trains and rack railway track

Back to the flat for an early night - again. I don't think we're going to get to watch Hostage! My legs are starting to complain!
