I had a poor sleep over the north sea and we were turfed out of bed with Stena's usual unpleasant haste - which led me to leaving my scarf behind in the cabin.
We got the London train as planned, but I made a hasty decision to swap onto the Elizabeth Line at Shenfield as it was clearly a much easier interchange. What I hadn't considered was the relatively slow (almost glacial) journey to Farringdon this way.
The upshot of that was that we failed to make our booked assistance at St Pancras, missed our reserved seats, and assistance got us on the first train out of London that didn't serve a cooked breakfast.
The first class carriage was absolutely full, and I wondered if a fight would break out because the seat reservation system hadn't updated, and there was a huge amount of confusion and aggravation.
As it turned out - when they announced it had updated - they were all set to 'not reserved' which made everyone equally happy & unhappy. Well played EMR!
The assistance was waiting for us at Leicester Station and left us with a short walk to the taxi rank.
The taxi (which gets more expensive every time) brought us home at about 1120.
And we were Very Glad to be back home!
Thanks for following our daily exploits - this is the last daily update.
There will be two posts on gaylers.me/travel one summarising this trip and the other reflecting on it - I'll notify the usual suspects when these go up - which may not be for a couple of days.
Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us.
