Meanderings around Europe by train – and other stuff

Day 5 - Life's a beach

We'd decided to head for a beach today. We had a choice of two - La Couronne or Carro - we chose the first as it looked like a bigger beach and outside of a town.

We went on the number 30 bus - another €1 each invested! Surprise! We actually managed to get off at the right stop. I was expecting the bus to be busy, but we were the only passengers most of the way. It was a scenic trip through a lot of smaller villages and past camp sites - only some of the journeys on this route go this way.

The beach (and the huge car park) was mostly empty. The morning was very overcast, but warm and muggy.

I was congratulated on my French by the ice cream shop man! He didn't even work out I was English until I told him - but he'd guessed I wasn't French.

Sacha put her bikini on and went for a paddle - I helped her, but I think she just wanted me to swear at how cold it was. La Couronne Plage is a lovely beach but it steps down quite quickly once in the water.

We sat, dozed and read most of the afternoon in the now glorious sunshine - but still the beach never got busy. The busiest area was by the shops & restaurants where five police officers + two in plain clothes (with armbands) showed up for about half an hour. They didn't buy ice creams, so I don't know what it was about.

We headed back up the slope in plenty of time for the bus back - another €2 spent!

I've been to the Spar Supermarket again - Sacha wanted fruit, so I got her apricots, and reduced cherries & strawberries. Do chocolate biscuits count as fruit?
