We left our hotel in Žilina in plenty of time - in fact too much time. So much so that we were left sitting in the station for about an hour.
A dishonourable mention goes to ZSSK (Slovak Railways) for the shambles around announcing departure platforms. If we'd have held up our train because of the scrum to get to the platform I wouldn't have apologised. It was about 4 minutes before the train arrived that the platform was displayed, and that meant going down steps, up more steps, and then finding the right carriage. Grrrrr.
Anyway, Business Class on Regiojet is a mixed bag - no luggage space, but very comfortable seats with free drinks (and very cheap food - which we didn't try).
It was a shame that the compartment window into the corridor was frosted because it meant there was no view on one side of the train.
While I'm moaning.... zero points for no announcements or next stop display.
We changed at Olomouc after crossing into Czechia, and seeing Poland in the middle distance.
We took advantage of the ČD lounge - which was nice but a bit odd as no one else was in there (free, but nasty coffee).
Again, the platform allocation was displayed very late, but it wasn't such a scramble to get on the train to Brno.
It was an older style train again with very comfy seats, and an almost empty first class area.
By the time we arrived in Brno it was raining - the first proper rain of the trip.
This didn't endear Brno to us, but we got into our extremely posh hotel - I guess we're batting above average in here!
Instead of eating in the posh hotel's posh restaurant we found a really nice, old fashioned, bar-restaurant not far from the hotel, and had an excellent chicken meal.
Afterwards, I went to try to find a supermarket on my own - which turned into a right palaver!
The Czech Republic has a very different feel to it compared to Slovakia
Not to worry - we're here, and we're happy.
