I discovered much too late that the Kofola is very highly caffeinated! That's why I didn't sleep very well.
At least it's low in sugar....
Anyway, today was bus trip day.
We took the strangest hop-on-hop-off bus tour of our vast experience.
It was a 12 (ish) seat open electric golf buggy type vehicle. The driver was also the guide - which was a mixed blessing because they couldn't be heard by everyone, and when the group was mixed languages, it fell apart. Plus I'm not keen on any driver looking at the audience behind them, instead of the trams in front of them!
The vehicle / thing had a top speed of about 20mph which was fine in the city streets, but frankly terrifying when we went on the motorway!
Poor Sacha had quite a struggle getting on & off the thing, but we managed somehow.
There was an option of a recorded commentary - which we took later - but it was constantly out of sync with the journey.
We got off (& on) at the castle - which had lovely gardens and great views.
I trotted up the steps to see the Slavín monument - which is a Soviet war memorial in the grand Monument-Realist style, and extremely impressive.
We also tried to see the Blue Church (which is very blue) but could only see the outside and peek through the gates because it was closed to the public.
There's quite a lot of Brutalist architecture from the 1960s around the city but in a poor state of repair which is a shame.
Once we'd been round and hopped off & on (!) we decided to get our money's worth by going round again. This was a good idea, but the rest of the bus were Germans who were getting progressively drunk on cans of beer. They didn't seem impressed by our recorded English commentary being as loud as their German!
Anyway, back to the main square one more time. It's the first time I think I've heard buskers doing Pink Floyd (and doing 'Wish You Were Here' pretty well).
Gosh I'm tired.
I've discovered that my phone seems to have deleted a lot of today's photos - hopefully I've got most of the important ones on film as well.
We had dinner at the restaurant next door. I had goulash and dumplings, and she had salmon salad. We both had apple strudel for afters which was very nice.
Weirdly, they wanted paying in cash, so I had to find a cash machine to top up my wallet once I'd settled up with them.
